Why We Love a Great Pasta Dish

Pasta can be made so many ways, that even if you are afraid of the carbohydrates, you can make a pasta dish that is healthy and delicious.
But pasta by itself is merely starch. It needs a sauce, and it needs a protein. And if you stick to that idea, you can make a dozen pasta meals in your head in one minute.
Pork, lamb, beef, fish, and chicken team up with pasta in a really great way. You can always make meatballs from beef, but you can also make them from ground lamb or veal. And this will change the flavor of the sauce in which it is cooked in a very unique way.
If you like chicken Parmesan, this is a great Italian dish that practically screams that it needs a pasta side dish. Fettuccine Alfredo is also a delicious Italian sauce, except it is white. This goes with chicken also, and you can substitute the fettuccine with tortellini, or even wide egg noodles for a variation. Boil some florets of broccoli in the boiling pasta water, and your meal just became more healthy for you.
There are different types of sausages that you can use, too. Like there is hot Italian sausage and sweet Italian sausage. Both have very distinct flavors, and if you make them in the sauce, the sauce will take on the flavor of the sausage. If you are used to making a meat sauce from ground, browned beef, you might want to try some crumbled browned Italian sausage instead.
Cod and shrimp, as well as many other types of fish, go well with different kinds of pastas, too. For a different type of white sauce, you could try some condensed cream of mushroom soup, or even cream of celery, and add a little milk to it. This, with your fish and spaghetti, for instance, is another great meal.
As far as the sauce is concerned, there are red Italian sauces, white Italian sauces, or you can use gravies in the ravioli or tortellini and perhaps Swedish meatballs, made with pork. Of course, some people consider rice as a type of pasta, which opens up a whole new recipe book. Rice and beans, with a Spanish style sauce is a great way to substitute meat for the protein. And chicken and rice, Chinese pork with rice, and various Mexican fish dishes with rice, along with just the right sauce or gravy, makes a variety of wonderful meals using the simple pasta dish.
